Knowledge Management

VACID Africa Promotes the use of information resources which when synthesized create knowledge. Capturing these information resources is what drives the activities that VACID Africa engages the communities using various approaches.

In technical terms, Knowledge is information that has been synthesized for decision making. As depicted in the diagram to the right, when integrated from various knowledge sources, we get wisdom.

The process of managing knowledge through the capture, distribution, and effective use of synthesized raw materials of knowledge (data processed to create information then further synthesized to support decision making) is what is known as knowledge management.

Those who study this discipline create terminologies that suite them. Some of the terms used in knowledge management are such terms as knowledge or information assets.

As such knowledge management as a discipline promotes the integrated approach to the identification, capture, evaluating, retrieval, and sharing all organizational information assets.

The information assets include repositories of data normally called databases, or documents, policies, procedures, and any other previously un-captured expertise and experience that resides in the minds of individual workers.

The approaches used to capture such personal elements of a person’s experience or knowledge so that it benefits others or an organized group of people in an enterprise or collective is what is called knowledge management.
